In 2025/26 SMS is continuing to partner with Our Lady of the Visitation Primary School, Greenford to prove the value of a dedicated Sustainability Manager after the first year of established a Climate Action Plan.
In 2024/25 SMS partnered with three schools in Ealing to establish and begin implementation of school specific Climate Action Plans:
- Derwentwater Primary School, Acton
- Our Lady of the Visitation Primary School, Greenford
- Villiers High School, Southall
Each school had a dedicated part-time Sustainability Manager to support the school community to become more sustainable.
Each Sustainability Manager created a Climate Action Plan bespoke to the school based on data and input gathered from:
- calculating the school’s carbon footprint
- reviewing staff and community surveys and
- gathering pupil input
The Sustainability Manager then brings the Climate Action Plan to life by supporting pupil-led projects, securing external funding and developing school-wide initiatives.
Thanks to our wonderful “control schools” we compared how schools with Sustainability Managers got on compared to a typical school that had a typically overstretched teacher running the school’s sustainability activities.
